Reading
Reading is one of my favorite subjects! I love seeing students get excited about the stories they are reading and want to share them with one another. It is so fun to get lost in a story and let the walls of the classroom slip away! We read both fiction and nonfiction in 4th grade. The skills that we build will help us in the classroom and in life as we learn to navigate informational texts and resources, empathize with characters, and soak in valuable life lessons.

What's HappeningOur third unit in Reading is Historical Fiction Book Clubs. During this unit, students will be reading in book clubs. Each book club will be reading about a different time period: WWII, Civil Rights, Westward Expansion, Immigration, and The Great Depression. Some of our main goals include inferring about characters and their perspective, thinking about how a character changes throughout the story, analyzing parts of the story in relation to the whole story, and thinking about theme.
