Writing
Writing is such a great subject to explore your creativity and let your voice shine through. I love hearing my students compliment one another on their writing. Here, they learn so much from each other and from the authors they have grown to love and admire. I show them some techniques in class but this year, students begin to develop their own style. In 4th grade we develop our writing skills through personal narratives, opinion essays, literary essays, poetry, journalism, graphic novels, and informational writing.

What's HappeningOur third unit in Writing is Literary Essay. During this unit, students will be writing about the books they are reading in class. This is a foundational unit because it teaches students formal essay structure. Some of our main goals include generating BIG IDEAS about character traits and motivations as well as theme and providing evidence to support those ideas (including micro/mini stories, lists, and quotes).
